1958 Unrestored Original Inca Red VW Karmann Kabriolet
Talk about a true Barn Find, feast your eyes on this unrestored 2 owner Inca Red 1958 VW Convertible with just under 52K original miles.
This time capsule was originally purchased by an airline Pilot out of Long Beach, Ca who unfortunately passed away sometime prior to 1977.
At which time his widow, not having the heart to part with her dear husbands prized possession, chose to allow it to remain garaged until 2002 at which time it was passed on to its current owner. In the time since then this vintage Convertible received a complete brake overhaul, the installation of a temporary “replacement” fuel tank(you can see the original Inca Red fuel tank inside the passenger footwell), carburetor cleaning, etc. and at that point the engine was awakened from its 25+ year slumber.
Since then it has been safely stored. Included are the original hubcaps & beauty rings to finish off the well preserved "survivor" look. The top is believed to be the original it left the Karmann factory with all those years ago. To say that there aren’t many “time capsules” such as this around today is a huge understatement.
All of the original body tags are in place as they should be with a VW Convertible at this level. Supposedly the original engine has never been removed from the car but we have no way of confirming that. It just has that untouched original "look" about it.
Also, according to the current owner, being an original So. Cal. car, rust is not a concern with this rare one. That "glimpse" inside the front fenderwell is a pretty good example of just that. Solid as it gets for a 68 year old classic.
Also includes two spare 36 hp engines, a rare Hazet toolkit, an original VW Gas Heater (never installed) and a couple other "goodies" as well.
