1960 Volkswagen Karmann Kabriolet

Wow! Wow!! Wow!!! What else can we say but WOW! Talk about a total time capsule.

Check out this gorgeous Jade Green dream machine with its original paint, top, and interior. Can you say "Love at first sight!" This beauty oozes originality, top to bottom.

Speaking of "bottom" check out the photos of the underside in the Gallery and you'll see just how rust free the pan is. As well as the support rails and the jacking points. Solid as they get.

This is an original, unrestored, numbers matching(see Birth Certificate) 1960 Volkswagen Convertible that was ordered in San Diego for European Delivery in Oslo Norway by a Norwegian Engineer who then visited family and had it shipped back to San Diego. Currently under the care of the third owner since it was new. Almost all the parts are original to the car including the Paint, Top, Top Boot, Top Frame, Chrome work, engine, pan(rust free; no repairs), suspension, you name it.
One item that isn't original and should be noted is the transaxle. It's a "full sychro" version that was sourced from a 1962 VW Beetle. So while it's not original to the car, if you've ever driven a vintage VW with an early "crashbox" transaxle, then you'll know this is a welcome change. One you would likely do yourself had it not already been done.
Included in the sale are the original Owners Manual along with an original key, a fabric sample, and build code sheet. A piece of carpet in the front has been replaced at some point.
The left front fender is not original. The left front fender was replaced and painted in 1959 after it was damaged during shipment from Oslo Norway to San Diego. Having aged gracefully over the past 65 or so years, it blends in well and most would never even be able to tell it happened. Just wanted to make sure potential buyer's were aware of it in an effort towards full disclosure.
There have been no resprays of the body other than the left fender so the paint is all original and matches the Birth Certificate the owner requested in 2002. The color is also written in German on the inside of the front trunk wiring cover(see photo).
Exceptionally solid rust free floors and support rails. When was the last time you saw that in an unrestored all original early convertible. Like, never.
This rare 1960 Volkswagen convertible comes with two engines. The original "numbers matching" engine and one that is believed to be from a 1956 VW that was purchased to use while the original engine was getting worked on. Both engines run great but the owner chose to preserve the original engine for historical value and has been carefully stored ever since.
The original engine has NOS Heads, Valves, Cams, Lifters, Pistons, Clutch Pressure Plate, Manifold, Rebuilt Rods, New Carburetor, Leistritz Muffler, as well as a complete machining and balancing job done by Rimco. Of course that engine is included in the sale as well.
Brand new 6volt battery installed on 4/9/26.
This is most definitely a time capsule VW Convertible that is rarely seen these days, especially given its condition.
Clear Title in the owner's name but not currently registered as the owner rarely drives it.

Having remained under current ownership for the past three decades it's easy to see this special Convertible has been better than well cared for.
