1979 VW Triple Black "Epilogue" Karmann Kabriolet
One of only 900 of this Model ever produced.
Check out this gorgeous 1979 VW Convertible in a beautiful Triple Black color combo. And to top it off, a gorgeous German Haartz Stayfast canvas top and vinyl headliner as well.
These Triple Black's have a mystique all their own. Not to mention, with only 900 of these Models ever produced for the global market, the sheer rarity alone speaks volumes. With its black top and striking black interior, combined with its deeply rich black paint it's truly a wonderful color combo.
And you can see with the Birth Certificate that's included in the sale, this sweet "numbers matching"(yes, it still retains its original engine) ride has been this way from day one.

Having owned this car for the past 28 years it's easy to tell it's been well cared for. Take a bit of time to peruse through the gallery of photos and you'll see, from top to bottom, this rare find has been extremely well preserved over the past 47 years. Always garaged, never abused, and always well maintained.
A front disc brake "conversion" was completed some 25 years ago, no doubt helping this Beetle stop even better than when it was new. Speaking of stopping power, the tires were also replaced some three years ago with little "road time" on them since then.
Starting with the dashboard, showing no signs of aging, on down to the pan and body support rails, it's easy to see that this wonderful example has rarely experienced a day of bad weather, nor a night outside in the cold. We're willing to bet those residing on the East coast rarely get to see 46 year old VW's that look anything like this. Unless of course they've been subjected to a full on restoration, which this gem obviously hasn't. Like they say, "It's only original once" and we have a feeling this is what they're referring to.
Everyone that knows anything at all about these classic air-cooled VW Convertibles knows that rust is the number one downfall of these finely built vehicles. None of that going on here. The pan appears as solid as when it left the factory. Ditto for the body support rails. Again, solid as can be. The folding convertible top frame itself can literally be another "stickler" as well but once again, looks and works as smooth as can be.
Some of the recent maintenance that has been done, including a new clutch, new transaxle mounts, new Bosch starter, all new fuel lines, etc. can be seen in the accompanying receipts, also posted in the gallery.
This beauty also boasts a working AM/FM/CD Stereo with a removable face plate ready to blast out all of your favorite 80's tunes. Okay, that may be pushing it a bit. Perhaps the 80's wasn't your gig but you get the point. We doubt there's a person out there that doesn't have a good time VW story stashed away in their Memory Bank. Either they did or someone they know or knew somewhere along the line owned one. Family, friends, neighbors, they drove one in College, nearly everyone has a wonderful VW memory.
After all, they aren't known as the "People's Car" for nothing. That's why there's still a huge market for these wonderful machines to this very day. Everyone wants to go back to their youth and one of the best ways to do that is with the top down, wind in your hair(or your hat, depending on what type of a "hair day" one is having or for those among us that are "follically challenged", perhaps the strong scent of sunscreen wafting through the air), cruisin' on down the road in a classic VW convertible, smile after smile, arm about to fall off from being so sore from waving back at everyone that's giving you endless smiles, honks, and waves.
You will also see that the speedometer was replaced during that recent service work. The original speedo hadn't worked correctly for an unknown amount of time. And it's also unknown as to how many miles were on the "replacement" speedo when it was installed, so the Bug is being listed as "total miles unknown". But as the Mechanic at the Repair Shop stated during its recent visit in March of 2023, "We rarely see old VW's in this good of shape." Of course a Mechanic's inspection is welcomed.
And if all that wasn't enough, check out the custom made trunk liner. No standard clunky cardboard cutout going on here. No Sir. This was custom made to hug every nook and cranny(of which there are many in a Super Beetle trunk), adding up to one special addition.
Also included in the sale are some "extra" parts the owner has collected through the years for those "just in case" situations that may arise. Those parts include an ECU(the computer "Brain Box" that controls the fuel injection as well as the other electronic bits and resides behind the rear seat), most of another Fuel Injection system, and a few other "goodies" as well including a spare set of hubcaps(still new in the box) that fit the currently installed chrome wheels.
Speaking of wheels, a set of five of the original Lemmerz Sport Wheels are also included in the sale for those that might want to bring this fine '79 back to a more "traditional" look. Add some whitewalls to those Sport wheels and you could have a different car every week. Or at least it would feel like it anyway.
All the recent service work was done with the intention of keeping this wonderful Beetle another 28 years but as with all good things, plans change. And with that this amazing machine is now being offered to a new Caretaker. Hopefully someone that will appreciate and care for it as well as it's been taken care of for the past 46 years.
Title in hand and registration is up to date. This beautiful Beetle is currently garaged in Phoenix, AZ.
